ID. 4 EV Recognized As As Top Safety Choice

The Insurance Institute for Highway safety awarded Volkswagen’s all-electric ID.4 SUV with its highest safety award for vehicular and pedestrian crash prevention.

To qualify for a 2021 TOP SAFETY PICK+, vehicles must score good marks in all of the Institute’s six crashworthiness assessments, LED headlights and vehicle-to-vehicle as well as vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash evaluations.

Under the Hood

Volkswagen’s 2021 ID.4 EV comes in 2 powertrain configurations. The rear-drive features a tail-mounted synchronous motor with 201 horsepower and 228 Ib-ft of torque. While the all-wheel drive model has an additional front-mounted motor that churns out up to 295 horsepower.

ID.4 uses an 82-kW lithium-ion battery pack with 288 pouch-style cells encased in extruded aluminum located in the chassis floor.

Comfort and Convenience

Legroom of 37.6 inches allows passengers to ride comfortably. There is 33 cubic feet of cargo space behind the 3-seat bench which extends to 64 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.

The ID.4 also benefits from a 2-level cargo floor that conceals storage space for an onboard charger.

A cockpit styled instrument panel responds to voice prompts and gesture controls which enable drivers to accomplish a variety of tasks without touching knobs or dials.

Safety

ID-4 offers standard IQ.DRIVE® advanced driver assistance with hands-on semi-automated capability. On the road, IQ.DRIVE® features lane centering and a receptive steering wheel that makes driving easier.

Multiple cameras and ultrasound sensors keep an eye on surrounding areas and alert drivers on the unexpected obstacles around them.

The 2021 Volkswagen ID EV also earned top ratings in car-to-car collisions and car-to-pedestrian accidents in appraisals by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
