VW’s ID.4 earned top honors from CarBuzz, being named “Save the Planet” Car of the Year award.
The 2021 accolade goes to a hybrid or electric vehicle with high powered road performance and the best fuel efficient bundle.
“With the 2021 ID.4, Volkswagen proves an electric vehicle can be fun and good for the planet at the same time," said Jared Rosenholtz, CarBuzz Editor. “The rear-drive ID.4 offers respectable power for a compact crossover, while the dual-motor all-wheel drive model dials up the excitement with nearly 300 horsepower.
“We love the ID.4’s nimble driving manners and premium interior. This car shows that VW is ready for the electrified era.”
The ID.4 offers an 82kWh battery and rear-mounted AC permanent-magnet synchronous motor with 201 hp and 229 Ib-feet of torque. An asynchronous electric motor on the front axle can generate a maximum system output of 295 hp and 339 Ib-ft of torque.
VW’s all-new electric SUV has an EPA estimated range of 260 miles. It has a standard maximum charging rate of 11 kilowatts on a compatible 240 volt charger.
“We are thrilled to win the Save the Planet Award from CarBuzz. Volkswagen is committed to bringing e-mobility to the masses," said Scott Keogh, CEO Volkswagen. “The ID.4 is packaged and priced to win the hearts of buyers, so they don’t have to choose between the functionality they need and zero-tailpipe emission driving.”
