Popular VW Golf Earns Top Honors

The 2017 Volkswagen Golf snagged the “Best Small Car in 2017” honors from the New York Daily News, and drivers keep coming back to it for its ideal balance of performance, advanced technology and interior comfort, along with ample safety features to give everyone peace of mind.

Under the Hood

Volkswagen engineers equipped the 2017 Golf with a turbocharged direct-injected 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine puts out 170 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque with automatic transmission and 184 pound-feet of torque with the manual transmission.

The engine is teamed with either a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic with Tiptronic maul shifting mode.

Comfort and Convenience

A large interior space gives the 2017 Golf plenty of room, and a 60/40 split folding rear seat allows for multiple passenger seating and cargo carrying configurations.

New for 2017 is the Wolfsburg Edition, which includes a panoramic sunroof, rain-sensing windshield wipers, specialized floor mats and heatable front leatherette seats, among other features.

Standard equipment includes the MIB II infotainment system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen display screen that controls the radio. The system interfaces with smartphones via App-Connect for hands-free voice calls, audio streaming and mobile app integration. Volkswagen built the 2017 Golf with a more comprehensive available mobile app suite than almost any other vehicle, and drivers are the winners with everything from HD Radio to an integrated navigation system.

Safety

Volkswagen designers built the 2017 Golf with safety at the top of their minds. Advanced brakes feature 11.3-inch vented disc brakes up front and 10.7-inch solid rear discs with antilock braking system and electronic brake pressure distribution. Post-collision braking system is standard, which helps reduce impact and injury in the event of a crash.

Standard stability control and traction control help keep the vehicle on the driver’s intended course.

In a collision, occupants are protected by a full set of airbags and standard three-point seat belts at all seating locations.

Available safety features include blind spot monitor, rear traffic alert and forward collision warning.
