VW ID.4 Software Updates Offer Suite Of Drive-Focused Improvements

Volkswagen has issued software updates and a revised 12-volt battery for ID.4 owners in the United States.

The upgrade includes minor bug fixes, enhanced security parameters and thermal management optimization to extend the driving range of the ID.4 SUV.

This development keeps the fully electric vehicle up-to-date with digital revolutions from Volkswagen. It will begin with 2021 ID.4s and continue with 2022 models.

"The ID.4 has been very successful for Volkswagen in bringing new customers into the brand and introducing drivers to EVs. We're excited to upgrade the software in MY21 and certain MY22 to enhance the user experience," said Andrew Savvas, vice president, Volkswagen.

U.S. owners are expected to book in-person appointments with local dealerships for the software update and new 12-volt battery. The robust battery has lower internal resistance and boosted electrolyte capacity, culminating in a longer service life.

VW's software advancement makes it easier for drivers to find charging stations and select specific speed levels while on the road. ID.4 AWD models will unveil new drive modes, indicating whether the car is set to Eco, Comfort, Custom or Traction.

It also adds Auto-Hold--a feature that prevents the vehicle from rolling until a driver presses the accelerator pedal. For drivers that do not approve of this feature, it can be deactivated via a shortcut menu.

A battery state-of-charge readout complements the existing battery icon and range estimate display. At the same time, a drive-mode indicator and a trip computer will provide real-time driving data and ambient temperature levels.
