Volkswagen has launched the 40th Anniversary Edition of the 2023 Golf GTI to commemorate a successful run of four decades in the hatchback market.
The special edition comes with a restyled bonnet, projector LED headlamps, gloss-black roof and mirror caps, 19-inch alloy wheels with red pinstripe accents and a three-spoke steering wheel with a distinctive "40" logo.
It is offered in two color choices: Urano Grey and the classic GTI Tornado Red, with a limited model production of 1,500 units.
"The limited production 40th Anniversary model offers our North American enthusiasts a dose of heritage along with everything they love about the GTI," said Hein Schafer, Vice President at Volkswagen.
Under the Hood
A turbocharged 2.0-liter engine generates 241 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, making it the fastest GTI to date. The engine is synced to a 6-speed manual transmission, with an optional 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox routed through paddle shifters.
Fuel economy of the 6-speed manual GTI is an EPA-estimate 24 mpg city/34 mpg highway. Highway mIleage increases by one mpg with the 7-speed DSG.
Comfort and Convenience
Inside amenities include Scalepaper Plaid fabric upholstery, automatic climate control, a heated GTI steering wheel, push button start and 30-color ambient lighting.
Volkswagen's Digital Cockpit Pro provides a configurable display of real-time driving data. Drivers have access to 21 features, including car status, full-screen navigation, phone information, g-force meter and torque output.

The 2023 Golf GTI 40th Anniversary Edition comes with IQ Drive—a range of advanced driver assistance systems that keep car occupants safe on the road.
