Volkswagen's all-electric ID.7 delivers a rapid charging drivetrain, plushy interior and introduces a slew of safe driving systems that ramp up the winter driving experience.
A sculpted three-dimensional hood design accentuates its front-end styling, while a compressed strip of daytime running lights complements the LED headlights.
ID.7 is 195.3 inches long and has an extended 117-inch wheelbase for improved comfort for all occupants. The 60.5-inch short body overhang of the VW's ID.7 contributes to its sleek and aerodynamic appearance.
Under the Hood
The ID.7 uses VW's APP 550 drive system. Its new powertrain comes with high energy density batteries which reduce energy consumption and extend driving range.
An 82 kWh lithium-ion battery nestled in the sandwich floor works together with a dual-stage single speed gearbox and pulse inverter. A leading-edge charging and thermal management function keeps the battery cells at a consistent temperature for optimal performance and range in cold winter months.
Comfort and Convenience
An electric trunk lid offers 18.8 cubic feet of storage capacity behind back seats. The rear seats folded down expands the cargo area to a spacious 56.0 cubic feet, providing room for additional luggage and winter sports equipment.
Front passenger seats offer 12-way electric adjustment and flexible thigh support for fatigue induced by protracted winter driving.
To combat stiffness and discomfort of back muscles which can be compounded by cold temperatures, the front seats are padded with 10 air cushions that offer pneumatic point massage. Optional seats offer two large air pockets in the cushions to also relieve the pelvis and spine.
VW’s designers fitted the ID.7 with a standard 700-watt premium sound system with 12 high-end speakers. Setup adds a center front speaker and subwoofer in the back luggage compartment for an immersive 3D acoustic experience.
Climatronic automatic air conditioning eliminates the need for drivers and passengers to endure chilly cabins, ensuring a warm and welcoming interior the moment they enter the ID.7. The climate control system maintains a consistent thermal warmth regardless of fluctuating temperatures outside.
Safety
ID.7 debuts a host of driver assistance systems engineered to safeguard drivers and passengers in challenging road conditions.
Park Assist Plus takes the stress out of difficult parking situations by taking control of acceleration, braking and steering controls. VW also included a memory function that allows the system to record the last 54 yards of the parking maneuver.
As the ID.7 approaches the designated parking spot next time, Park Assist with activated memory automatically offers to park the car independently. Automatically leaving the garage or parking space is also possible with memory function activation.
The Park Assist Plus system can remember a maximum of five parking maneuvers for any location.
Other new features:
- Enhanced Travel Assist facilitates lane changes when traveling on multi-lane freeways above 56 mph.
- Adaptive Lane Guidance anticipates the appropriate speed when approaching road corners, roundabouts and junctions.
- Assisted Lane Changing on expressways visually tells a driver the right time to change lanes.
