Under the Hood
All models are powered by a 2.0-liter engine with 184 hp and 221 Ib-ft of torque. The four-cylinder, turbo-charged and direct injection engine is paired with a standard eight-speed automatic transmission that provides seamless gear shifts.
Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system delivers a torque spread for different summer road conditions. Selectable drive modes allow motorists to switch between on-road and off-road options for driving preferences.
On-road mode optimizes the vehicle’s handling and performance for highway travel trips. It minimizes manual steering control, increases throttle response and minimizes body rolls during cornering.
Off-road mode provides traction in tough terrain and helps the SUV maintain a safe speed during hill descents.
Comfort and Convenience
Interior features include a 6.5-inch touchscreen, six-speaker system, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Wi-Fi Hotspot and two USB ports.
Front seating comes with 8-way lumbar support adjustment that alleviates muscle fatigue in hot weather. The increased airflow behind the back helps prevent excessive perspiration and eases back irritation caused by heat accumulation.
Dual zone temperatures allow occupants to choose efficient cooling and customizable airflow distribution without constant manual changes.
Optional cabin upgrades are an 8-inch touchscreen, nine-speaker premium audio system, satellite radio and wireless device charging.
Cargo capacity behind third-row seats is 12 cubic feet. A maximum storage space of 65.3 cubic feet with the seats folded flat offers additional family space for toys, strollers, playpens or portable cribs for the kids.
Safety
All Tiguan models offer six standard airbags (front, side and side curtain airbags) for frontal seating positions. Seatbelt pretensioners automatically tighten to place occupants in the best protective position before a collision occurs.
Intelligent Crash Response System shuts off the fuel pump, unlocks doors and switches on hazard lights if the SUV is involved in a crash.
